Dear members, nature lovers & supporter,
We are pleased to inform you that there will be several lead up activities this October in conjunction with the coming main MNS Kuching Branch event, Santubong Nature Festival 2014. You and your family and friends are invited to take part!
1) Public awareness talk on "How To Travel/Play In Santubong" in Mandarin by Sandra Wong, member of Society of the Wilderness.
Date: 10th Oct 2014 (Friday)
Venue: Borneo Coffee, Kuching.
Time: 7.30pm - 9.30pm
FREE admission!
2) MNSKB & DBKU are organizing Community Tree Planting - gotong royong style to promote good relations with community members, create environmental awareness & clean up overgrown beach reserve area in order to enhance the area as a recreation spot
Date: 11th Oct 2014 (Saturday)
Venue: Pantai Puteri, Santubong
Time: 8am to noon.
· During the occasion we will plant 30 tree seedlings of rhu laut, jambu laut and bintangor laut donated by Sarawak Forest Tree Seed Bank, Sarawak Forestry Corporation.
3) A guided walk across the sandflats of Buntal Bay to learn about ecology of 'ambal' or bamboo. Walk to be guided by MNSKB vice chairman Rose Au. To take part, email to mns.santubong@gmail.com with full name, IC/passport number & phone number before 15th Oct.
Date: 19 Oct 2014 (Sunday)
Venue: Kampung Buntal Fish Market
Time: 8am - noon
Things to bring: Sunblock, long sleeve shirt, raincoat/poncho, drinking water, snacks, camera & insect repellent. Wear suitable footwear to walk around the sandflats. Those who wish to buy 'ambal' from the locals are to bring their own plastic bags.
** Do not use umbrella as it is a taboo for locals collecting 'ambal'
For ambal guided walk in Kampung Buntal, participation fee is RM10 per person (non-refundable)
